St. Jude Hospital

So last week we got the chance to visit the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis as volunteers for the Country Cares Seminar.  We took a tour of the Hospital, learned a little of it's history and got a chance to meet some of the kids.  It was without a doubt one the most amazing things we've been given the chance to do.  Personally, I went into the event a bit cautious, expecting it to be a sad experience, but meeting and talking with the kids just lifted me up.  They are all so full of life
and the entire place has a very positive spirit about it.     The hospital was named St. Jude because he is the Saint of Hopeless Causes.  The hospital will turn away no ill child, no matter how serious the disease and charge no money to care for them.  Thereby giving every child the chance to survive.  We learned that the most common type of childhood cancer has been brought to a nearly 96% cure rate.  Amazing!  We also learned that it costs more than a million dollars a day to keep it running and that they run almost entirely off donations.  It really is people taking care of people.  Country Cares plays such a big part in keeping this incredible place going so don't hesitate to donate when you hear your local radiothon.
